Brief History
The Peruvian Institute of Studies in Paleovertebrates (IPEP in spanish) is a non lucrative organization of
scientific disposition, dedicated to paleontologic research and evolution specially on the field of fossil
vertebrates and everything related to them.
Establised on Lima in the year 1995, the IPEP has always been conducted to develop an inspiration for
paleontology deeply commited to the peruvian perspective.
Following protocols of our own to orderly direct our projects regarding investigation, we also support the defense of the national paleontologic heritage and encouraging its diffusion.
The milestones of our institute in the scientific field have been registered in several international
publications. The institute also maintains a constant prescence in the media as an echo of its
remarcable achievements.
Our mission is to form a core of paleontological research capable of solving the problems raised by the
evolution of different forms of life in our territory yet following our own criteria and trying to establish
model lines for the local paleontological activity. Between these lines we want to include not only the
proper investigation but also the conservation of the paleontological heritage and the difussion of its
more representative elements.
Our Vission
Our Mission
We want to build a paleontology distinctly peruvian, based on the contributions of national investigators
and oriented with priority to interpret the evolutionary process and its events that occurred in our
territory and all of this under a perspective of our own, without losing the link to the global and
continental context.
We are also on the pursue of associating the paleontologic activity with the development of the
community esencially while cooperating with the productive sector.
We belive firmly in the validity of the regulations that guide the sciences, wich places us above any other guideline and that it leads to respect the freedom of creation, the free initiative and the methodology of every different scientific discipline.
