Once ago a flourishing group with large to giant-sized forms, Dinomyid rodents are solely represented today by the pacarana or machetero (Dinomys branicki), a fox-terrier-sized trekker along our cloud forests. And very sympatethic, but he´s not a ginea pig... avoid to put your hands too much close of his mouth....The acme of these hystricognaths is situated in Late Miocene-Earliest Pliocene, with an abundant record in several South American fossil sites, including Peru (Amazonian Basin)
